Who We Are

The Stow and District Civic Society promotes the history and amenities of Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds, a town with a rich heritage reaching back over 4,000 years.

Formed on 3rd August 1971, the Society became a registered charity in 1972 (reg. no.264597) and currently has over 200 members.

The Society is a friendly and social group and runs a lively programme of informative and social events and activities, giving you the opportunity to join in and shape our future.

Our aims are to:

  •  Stimulate public interest in the promotion of topics including, but not exclusively, the history, geography, natural history, architecture, urban design and planning in the area.

  • Encourage high standards of planning, architecture and landscaping to improve the amenities in our community.

  • Raise awareness and interest in the preservation, protection and development of places of local historical interest.

  • Contribute to developing and sustaining a vibrant community in Stow.
